Canon Printer Paper Jam

If the Printer Status Window displays the message “Paper Jam inside Printer,” unclog the printer by following these steps.

Clear paper jams while the printer is turned on. The information being printed will be erased if the printer is switched OFF. The data will be lost if you switch the printer off to clear any jammed paper from the printer’s rear.
Excessive force could cause the printer’s components to break or tear paper. When unjamming paper that has become stuck, pull it out in the direction that makes the most sense given its position.
If paper is torn, be sure to look for and take out any stray bits.
The problem message might not go away if you remove the stuck paper without first opening the top cover. Open and close the top cover once in this situation.
Cause and Remedy

If there is paper stuck in the output tray, take it out.
if there is paper stuck in the multipurpose tray, take it out.

IMPORTANT

If the stuck paper cannot be easily removed, continue on to the following step
rather than attempting a forced removal.

1. Carry out the next step if the optional 250-sheet paper feeder is installed. – Pull out the paper cassette.

– Take out any stuck paper.

Place the printer’s paper cassette there.

Slide back the top cover.

Open the top cover while holding it open until it stops.

Take off the printer’s drum cartridge.

The drum cartridge should be removed by pushing it in the direction of the arrow (1)
until it stops (2).

If paper becomes stuck in the drum cartridge, don’t try to push it out; instead, follow
the instructions under “When Paper Becomes Jammed in the Drum
Cartridge” at the bottom of this page to get the paper out.

If you damage or touch the drum inside the drum cartridge, the print quality can suffer.
Avoid touching or opening the drum’s protective shutter (A). Be careful not to
hold or touch any delicate sections not mentioned in this technique, like the
sensor (B). The cartridge could be harmed as a result of this.

b. Avoid shining bright lights or direct sunlight on the drum cartridge.

Avoid touching or holding the electrical connections (A). The cartridge could be harmed as a
result of this.

To avoid lowering the printing quality, avoid touching or holding the transfer
belt (A). The drum cartridge memory (B) may be damaged if you shake it or bring
it close to a magnetic field.

Put the protective bag over the drum cartridge.

Remove the stuck paper while depressing the green lock release lever (1).

Remove the protective bag from the drum cartridge.

Using both hands, hold the drum cartridge and insert it into the printer.

When inserting the drum cartridge, make sure the triangular mark there corresponds to the triangle mark on the printer

(1).

Pull the drum cartridge down toward you to lock it (2).

IMPORTANT Lock the drum cartridge firmly until it resembles the image in the illustration.

. Snap the top cover shut. Gently close the top cover while holding the opening.

Even after closing the top cover, pieces of shredded paper can still be present inside the printer if the message indicating that there is paper trapped somewhere inside it remains visible in the Printer Status Window. Recheck each component of the printer, and remove all paper jams entirely.
